Announcement on the Future
It is with great sadness that I must announce that the SASRA
Angling Club will be formally dissolved at the end of its 2025
Annual General Meeting on the 3rd November.
A significant reduction in membership numbers in recent years and
an inability to attract new younger members into the club has
forced the club committee to this decision, which has been
endorsed by the remaining members of the club.
The club was formed in 1989 to fish a small section of the River
Calder and enjoyed many successful years, often with a waiting list
for membership. However over the years fish stocks have
significantly declined and the Environment Agency was forced to
place a mandatory catch and release policy on the river, which has
not helped in our quest to retain and attract members into the club.
The Committee would like to thank all those members who have
stayed loyal to the club over the years and for their continued
support.
The Committee would also like to thank the SASRA Executive for
its financial support over the years. SASRA provided a number of
grants to help the club improve access to the river and help with
maintenance.
Peter Cook
Chairman SASRA Angling Club
Angling Club
The Club has the rights from the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) to fish the west bank of the River Calder from Dukes Way Bridge approximately 1 ½ miles north to Knocking Wood (with the exception of the Sella Park House Hotel stretch of the river). These rights are secured through SASRA of which we are a sub section. SASRA assist the club financially and it is therefore mandatory that all the people in this sub section are members of SASRA.
The river is a small spate river. Fishing methods are predominately spinning and worm. There are a few opportunities to fly fish.
A small car park is provided by the river for Club members for access.
There is an Annual sub-section fee set at the SAC AGM. The current fee is £15.
In addition to river fishing the Club may occasionally organise fly fishing trips to local still waters.
